NCAA: Texas Beats BC In 25 Innings

Jul 18, 2014 4:43 PM

Texas walked off the field victorious after beating Boston College 3-2 in 25 innings on Saturday night in the longest game in NCAA history, according to an Associated Press report. ?Every inning, we felt like we had a chance to win it,? Texas second baseman Travis Tucker said. ?And every inning, we thought we were going to win it. It ended up happening in the 25th.? Tucker?s RBI single with one out in the top of the inning helped Texas put an end to the game that eclipsed the previous record of 23 innings, set in 1971 when Louisiana-Lafayette defeated McNeese State. Texas reliever Austin Wood pitched 13 innings, including 12 1-3 of no-hit ball before allowing a two-out single to Tony Sanchez in the 19th.

Twins Hand White Sox Historically Lopsided Loss

Oct 17, 2014 10:33 AM

The Twins defeated the White Sox 20-1 on Thursday night, matching the worst loss Chicago has suffered in their history. "I think a lot frustration came out today," said Mauer, whose Twins had lost the first six games of their road trip. "We had a rough trip. It was nice to get some runs. We kept on saying, 'Keep at it, keep at it.' " The only other time the White Sox loss by 19 runs was in 2002, when the Angels defeated them 19-0. "We did everything wrong we could do," manager Ozzie Guillen said. "You name it, we did it wrong."

Zito Earns First Win, Giants Drop Dodgers

Feb 17, 2014 6:21 PM

Barry Zito notched his first win of the season on Friday night as the Giants gave the Dodgers a rare home loss. San Francisco won 3-1, giving Los Angeles their second-straight home defeat after a record start and Manny Ramirez's steroid suspension. "They have a great lineup and Manny adds that much more to it. But it's still a great lineup without him," Zito said. "That team's in first place for a reason.
